How Much Does a Nairobi National Park Tour Cost?
Prices checked 7 September 2026 · Confirm the final written total before paying
A Nairobi National Park tour currently costs roughly US$120–US$330 per non-resident adult when the safari service and individual park admission are combined. Shared half-day tours sit at the lower end; a solo private half-day or full-day safari sits at the upper end.
Quick answer
Your total has two required parts
A private tour becomes cheaper per person when several travellers share the same vehicle. Always check whether a headline price includes guest park admission.
- Shared half-day: observed from US$40–US$85 before possible admission
- Private half-day: US$200–US$400 per vehicle
- Private full-day: US$250–US$450 per vehicle
- KWS admission: verify the current category and amount before travel

The tabs organise the same two-part cost model by the decision most travellers are making.
01Shared half-day
Shared half-day examples were observed from about US$40–US$85 per person. Guest admission may be extra, so the headline price is not necessarily the final price.
02Private half-day
NairobiPark.org lists US$200 total for one adult and US$400 total for eight adults, before each guest’s park admission.
03Private full-day
NairobiPark.org lists US$250 total for one adult and US$450 total for eight adults, excluding guest admission.
04Why private rates fall per person
More guests share one vehicle, so the group total rises moderately while the effective price per person falls. Compare the whole group price before comparing per-person advertising.
05Couples and small groups
Compare the total price of shared seats with one private vehicle. Private pricing becomes more competitive when two or more travellers divide the vehicle-and-guide service.
06Common safari-service inclusions
Depending on the written package, the service may include the vehicle, driver-guide, fuel, pickup and drop-off, insurance, driver access, vehicle access and drinking water.
07Guest KWS admission
Guest admission may be included, excluded or added after the operator confirms each traveller’s category. Check the written quote and the dedicated entry-fees guide.
08Costs beyond the headline price
Possible extras include guest admission, outlying pickup, airport waiting, meals, attraction tickets, personal spending, tips, currency conversion and payment charges.
09What to confirm in writing
Confirm the final group total, vehicle, duration, pickup, inclusions, exclusions, deposit, cancellation terms and what happens if an official fee changes.
A Nairobi National Park tour currently costs roughly US$120–US$330 per non-resident adult when the safari service and individual park admission are combined. At the lower end are shared half-day tours; at the upper end is a solo private half-day or full-day safari. A private tour becomes substantially cheaper per person when two or more travellers share the same vehicle.
There is no single universal Nairobi National Park tour price. Your total depends on:
- whether the tour is shared or private;
- whether it lasts a half day or a full day;
- the number of people sharing the safari vehicle;
- whether the vehicle is a safari van or 4×4 Land Cruiser;
- your official KWS visitor category;
- whether park admission is included in the advertised price; and
- whether you add meals, airport transfers or other Nairobi attractions.
Price check: 7 September 2026. Tour prices and government charges can change. Marketplace prices may also vary by date, group size, availability and selected option.

What does the tour price actually pay for?
A Nairobi National Park tour normally has two required cost components.
1. The safari-service price
The safari-service price pays the operator for running the game drive. Depending on the package, it may cover:
- a safari vehicle;
- a driver-guide;
- fuel;
- pickup and drop-off;
- vehicle insurance;
- the driver’s park access;
- the safari vehicle’s park access; and
- drinking water.
This component is set by the operator. It may be charged per person, per seat or per private vehicle.
A low advertised “per person” price may refer to a shared vehicle. A private-tour price may initially look higher, but its effective cost per person falls when several guests share the same vehicle.
2. The guest’s KWS admission
Kenya Wildlife Service manages Nairobi National Park and sets the official admission charges. The amount depends on the visitor category and age category rather than on the tour operator.
Admission may be:
- included in an all-inclusive tour price;
- excluded and paid separately by each guest; or
- added during booking after the operator confirms each traveller’s category.
This guide uses the official fee only as one component in worked total-cost examples. For the complete and current category breakdown, use our dedicated Nairobi National Park entry-fees guide.
Private half-day Nairobi National Park tour cost
A private half-day Nairobi National Park safari with NairobiPark.org costs US$200 total for one adult and up to US$400 total for eight adults, before each guest’s park admission.
The safari-service price covers a private 4×4 Toyota Land Cruiser, professional driver-guide, fuel, supported Nairobi pickup and drop-off, vehicle and driver park charges, insurance and drinking water.
| Paying adults | Safari service per adult | Private vehicle total | Estimated total per non-resident adult* |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | US$200 | US$200 | US$280 |
| 2 | US$110 | US$220 | US$190 |
| 3 | US$85 | US$255 | US$165 |
| 4 | US$75 | US$300 | US$155 |
| 5 | US$65 | US$325 | US$145 |
| 6 | US$60 | US$360 | US$140 |
| 7 | US$54 | US$378 | US$134 |
| 8 | US$50 | US$400 | US$130 |
*Estimate = safari-service price plus the US$80 non-resident adult KWS rate displayed at the time of this price check. It excludes meals, tips and optional attractions.
The important relationship is:
For example, two adults pay US$220 for the private safari service, not US$200 each. Dividing the vehicle-and-guide service between them produces an effective rate of US$110 each before admission.
The full specifications, child pricing, availability and booking terms belong on the private half-day Nairobi National Park tour page.
Private full-day Nairobi National Park tour cost
A private full-day safari with NairobiPark.org costs US$250 total for one adult and US$450 total for eight adults, excluding guest admission.
| Paying adults | Safari service per adult | Private vehicle total | Estimated total per non-resident adult* |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | US$250 | US$250 | US$330 |
| 2 | US$140 | US$280 | US$220 |
| 3 | US$105 | US$315 | US$185 |
| 4 | US$90 | US$360 | US$170 |
| 5 | US$75 | US$375 | US$155 |
| 6 | US$68.33 | US$410 | US$148.33 |
| 7 | US$61.14 | US$428 | US$141.14 |
| 8 | US$56.25 | US$450 | US$136.25 |
*Estimate = safari-service price plus the US$80 non-resident adult KWS rate displayed at the time of this price check.
A full-day safari costs more in total because it uses the vehicle and guide for longer. It can nevertheless offer a relatively low effective per-person service rate when a larger group shares the Land Cruiser.
The additional payment buys more game-drive time and greater route flexibility. It does not buy guaranteed wildlife sightings. Nairobi National Park contains free-ranging wildlife, so sightings still depend on animal movement, weather, road conditions, timing and guide decisions.
Visitors deciding whether the longer format is worth the additional cost can review the complete private full-day Nairobi National Park safari.
Shared versus private tour prices
A shared safari sells individual seats to travellers who may not know one another. A private safari reserves the vehicle for one booking party.
| Cost consideration | Shared safari | Private safari |
|---|---|---|
| How the price is usually presented | Per person or per seat | Per person based on group size, or as a vehicle total |
| Lowest-cost use case | Usually one solo traveller | Usually couples, families and small groups |
| Pickup | May be limited to selected areas or collection points | More likely to be arranged around the booking party |
| Departure time | Fixed | More flexible within the package terms |
| Route and stops | Shared group follows one schedule | Guide can respond to the party’s priorities |
| Privacy | Vehicle is shared | Vehicle is reserved for your party |
| Effective group economics | Price normally stays similar for each seat | Per-person price falls as the group grows |
| Admission | Frequently excluded from the headline price | May be included or excluded; check the quote |
A shared safari will often be the cheaper choice for one person. A private safari may offer better value for a couple, family or small group once the vehicle cost is divided between the travellers.
Do not compare a US$50 shared seat with a US$200 private vehicle as if they are the same product. Compare:
- total price for the same number of travellers;
- vehicle type;
- admission treatment;
- pickup coverage;
- game-drive duration;
- group exclusivity; and
- all mandatory charges.
Half-day versus full-day cost
A half-day safari normally provides approximately four to five hours of game driving and is the most common choice for travellers with limited time in Nairobi. A full-day safari uses more of the park’s daylight hours and provides greater flexibility to cover different habitats and revisit productive wildlife areas.
Choose a half-day tour when:
- you have only a morning or afternoon available;
- you are connecting through Nairobi;
- you want the lowest practical private-tour total;
- you are travelling with children who may find a long game drive tiring; or
- Nairobi National Park is one part of a wider Nairobi itinerary.
Choose a full-day safari when:
- wildlife is the principal reason for your visit;
- you want more time for photography or birding;
- you prefer a less compressed route;
- you are comfortable carrying or arranging food for the day; or
- the additional safari time matters more than adding several city attractions.
The KWS admission is generally a park-access charge rather than an hourly charge. A half-day visit does not necessarily receive a proportionally reduced entrance fee. The meaningful price difference between the two formats is therefore usually the safari-service component.
How group size changes a private-tour price
Private-tour pricing is easiest to understand as a vehicle cost shared by the booking party.
Consider the NairobiPark.org half-day safari:
- One adult pays US$200 for the safari service.
- Two adults pay US$220 total, or US$110 each.
- Four adults pay US$300 total, or US$75 each.
- Eight adults pay US$400 total, or US$50 each.
The group is not receiving eight separate vehicles. The travellers are dividing the operating cost of one private Land Cruiser.
This produces an important budgeting rule:
A quote that says “US$75 per person” for four guests represents a US$300 safari-service total. Each guest’s admission must then be added if it is not included.
Vehicle capacity still matters. Adults, children and luggage all use space. Confirm the actual seating arrangement before assuming that the maximum advertised passenger count will provide the comfort or photography space your group expects.
What is normally included in a Nairobi National Park tour?
Inclusions vary by operator, so the written quote controls. A properly itemised quote should identify whether it includes:
- safari van or 4×4 Land Cruiser;
- pop-up or open viewing roof;
- professional driver-guide;
- fuel;
- hotel, residence or airport pickup;
- return transfer;
- driver admission;
- safari vehicle admission;
- guest park admission;
- bottled water;
- meals or snacks;
- taxes;
- card or payment charges; and
- entrance to any additional attraction.
NairobiPark.org’s listed private half-day and full-day safari-service rates include the private Land Cruiser, driver-guide, fuel, supported pickup and drop-off, vehicle and driver park charges, insurance and drinking water.
Guest KWS admission, meals, tips, personal expenses and optional attraction tickets are excluded unless a written quotation states otherwise.
Costs that may not appear in the headline price
Guest park admission
This is the most important possible exclusion. If a marketplace advertises a half-day tour from US$50 but marks Nairobi National Park as an “extra fee,” the final cost is not US$50.
Pickup outside the included area
Some tours include selected Nairobi hotels but charge extra for distant pickup locations. Give the operator the exact hotel, residence, airport terminal or other collection point before accepting the quote.
Airport timing or waiting
An airport pickup may be included, but prolonged waiting, a delayed flight or an itinerary crossing peak Nairobi traffic can affect the arrangement. Confirm the flight number and realistic connection window.
Meals and refreshments
Many half-day tours provide water but not breakfast or lunch. A full-day park-only safari may require a packed meal or a separately arranged food stop.
Additional attractions
The Giraffe Centre, Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, Nairobi Safari Walk, Animal Orphanage, Karen Blixen Museum and other Nairobi attractions are separate entities with their own admission, availability and scheduling requirements.
A park-only price should not be treated as a combined Nairobi-attractions price.
Tips and personal spending
Guide gratuities, souvenirs, additional drinks and personal purchases are normally discretionary and separate from the quoted safari price.
Currency and payment charges
A price displayed in US dollars may be converted by a card issuer or payment provider. Ask:
- which currency will actually be charged;
- which exchange rate will be used;
- whether card or platform fees apply; and
- whether taxes are already included.
How much does a Nairobi National Park tour cost for two people?
Using NairobiPark.org’s published rates and the KWS amount displayed at this review:
Private half-day example
- Safari service: US$220 total
- Effective safari-service price: US$110 each
- Working KWS admission: US$80 each
- Estimated total: US$380 for two adults
- Estimated effective cost: US$190 per adult
Private full-day example
- Safari service: US$280 total
- Effective safari-service price: US$140 each
- Working KWS admission: US$80 each
- Estimated total: US$440 for two adults
- Estimated effective cost: US$220 per adult
These examples are for two non-resident adults and exclude meals, tips and optional attractions. Different official visitor categories will produce different totals.
How much does a Nairobi National Park tour cost for four people?
Using the same working admission amount:
Private half-day example
- Safari service: US$300 total
- Effective safari-service price: US$75 each
- Working KWS admission: US$80 each
- Estimated total: US$620 for four adults
- Estimated effective cost: US$155 per adult
Private full-day example
- Safari service: US$360 total
- Effective safari-service price: US$90 each
- Working KWS admission: US$80 each
- Estimated total: US$680 for four adults
- Estimated effective cost: US$170 per adult
This illustrates why a private safari can become competitive for a small group: admission remains a per-person cost, but the vehicle-and-guide component is shared.
Is self-drive cheaper than a guided tour?
A self-drive visit can cost less if you already have a suitable vehicle and are comfortable navigating the park. It removes the commercial safari-service charge but does not remove the costs of admission, vehicle access, fuel or vehicle hire.
A self-drive budget may include:
- each visitor’s KWS admission;
- the vehicle’s park charge;
- fuel;
- vehicle rental;
- insurance;
- food and water; and
- any applicable payment charges.
Self-drive is not automatically better value. A guide contributes wildlife interpretation, route planning, recent local awareness and the ability to use a limited game-drive window efficiently. The financial choice depends on whether you already have the vehicle and knowledge needed for an independent visit.
Visitors considering this option should use the dedicated Nairobi National Park self-drive guide rather than treating a guided-tour quote as the only possible way to enter the park.
How to compare Nairobi National Park tour quotes
Ask every operator to provide the same information in writing.
Tour scope
- Is the safari shared or private?
- Is it half day or full day?
- How many hours are spent inside the park?
- Is the price per person or for the entire vehicle?
- What vehicle will actually be used?
Required charges
- Is each guest’s KWS admission included?
- Is the safari vehicle’s KWS charge included?
- Is the driver’s access included?
- Are fuel and taxes included?
- Are there booking, card or platform charges?
Logistics
- Is pickup included from your exact location?
- Is return transport included?
- What is the pickup time?
- What happens if a flight is delayed?
- Is food included or should you carry it?
Booking conditions
- What deposit is required?
- When is the balance due?
- What is the cancellation policy?
- Can the price change after confirmation?
- What happens if the official park fee changes?
A useful comparison has four columns:
| Operator | Safari-service total | Mandatory extras | Final group total |
|---|
Do not rank offers using the first column alone.
Which tour format offers the best value?
The best-value format depends on the traveller rather than on one universal cheapest price.
Solo traveller
A shared half-day tour will usually be the lowest-cost guided option. A private safari costs more because one traveller carries most of the vehicle-and-guide cost.
Choose private if flexible timing, vehicle space, photography or individual guide attention justifies the difference.
Couple
Compare the total price of two shared seats with the total price of one private vehicle. A private half-day tour becomes more competitive once the service cost is divided between two people.
Family
A private vehicle normally provides better control over stops, pace and seating. Confirm the operator’s child pricing and count every child when checking vehicle capacity.
Official child-admission categories and operator child rates are separate. Do not assume that a reduced KWS child ticket automatically means a reduced tour-service price.
Group of four to eight adults
A private vehicle often provides its strongest per-person value in this range because the fixed operating cost is shared. Confirm luggage, seat layout and the maximum comfortable rather than merely legal capacity.
Airport layover visitor
A half-day format may fit the available time, but the decision should account for immigration, baggage, Nairobi traffic, airport check-in and pickup location. The lowest-priced tour is poor value if its fixed schedule is incompatible with the flight.
Photographer or committed wildlife visitor
A full-day private safari costs more but provides more route and timing flexibility. It still cannot guarantee a particular species or sighting.
Common Nairobi National Park pricing mistakes
Comparing a seat price with a vehicle price
“US$50 per person” and “US$200 total” may describe different group structures. Normalize both quotes for the same number of travellers.
Treating park admission as the complete tour cost
KWS admission buys access to the park. It does not automatically provide a safari vehicle, driver-guide, hotel pickup or game drive.
Assuming “all-inclusive” includes every Nairobi attraction
An all-inclusive park tour may include the safari and KWS admission but exclude the Giraffe Centre, Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, meals or museum tickets. Read the named inclusions.
Using an undated fee table
Official charges can change. A table without a source and review date should not be treated as current.
Assuming the cheapest vehicle provides the same experience
A shared van seat and a private Land Cruiser differ in privacy, viewing space, route flexibility and group control. Price matters, but the products are not interchangeable.
Expecting a longer tour to guarantee more animals
Additional time increases opportunity and route flexibility. It does not control wildlife movement.
Before you book: a five-point cost check
Before paying, confirm:
- The total price for your entire party
- Whether guest KWS admission is included
- The exact vehicle and shared/private format
- Pickup, duration, fuel, taxes and mandatory extras
- The cancellation and official-fee-change policy
Keep the written confirmation. It should be possible to reconstruct the final total without guessing.
Planning your own Nairobi National Park budget
Use this worksheet:
| Cost component | Amount |
|---|---|
| Safari vehicle and guide | ______ |
| Adult KWS admission | ______ |
| Child KWS admission | ______ |
| Vehicle or driver charges not included in the tour | ______ |
| Pickup supplement | ______ |
| Meals and drinks | ______ |
| Optional attractions | ______ |
| Payment charges | ______ |
| Final group total | ______ |
| Final cost per traveller | ______ |
If the operator includes one of these components, enter zero in the corresponding row rather than counting it twice.

Cost questions answered
Nairobi National Park tour cost FAQs
These answers separate the operator’s safari-service charge from the official admission component.
How much is a Nairobi National Park safari per person?
Current observed totals range from approximately US$120 for a low-priced shared half-day listing plus the working non-resident admission amount to about US$330 for a solo private full-day safari. The amount depends on tour format, group size, visitor category and inclusions.
What is the cheapest way to tour Nairobi National Park?
For a solo traveller, a shared half-day tour is normally the lowest-cost guided option. For a couple, family or small group, compare the shared-seat total with the cost of dividing one private vehicle among the group. Self-drive can cost less if you already have a suitable vehicle.
Is Nairobi National Park admission included in tour prices?
Sometimes, but not always. Many operators and marketplaces advertise the safari vehicle and guide while charging guest admission separately. The offer should explicitly state whether KWS admission is included.
Why do Nairobi National Park tour prices differ so much?
Prices differ because operators sell different combinations of shared or private transport, van or Land Cruiser, half-day or full-day duration, pickup coverage, guide service, admission and optional attractions. Group size also changes the effective per-person cost of a private vehicle.
Is a private Nairobi National Park tour charged per person or per vehicle?
It may be presented either way. NairobiPark.org publishes a total private vehicle-and-guide price together with the effective price per adult at each group size. Always ask for the full group total.
Does a half-day tour receive a half-price park ticket?
Do not assume so. The official park charge is based on the applicable KWS access rules, not simply on dividing a day into hours. Check the current official category and validity details in the Nairobi National Park entry-fees guide.
Are children charged the same price as adults?
KWS admission and operator safari-service pricing are separate. KWS uses official age and visitor categories, while an operator may apply its own child service rate. Request both amounts and confirm how every child affects vehicle capacity.
How much should two non-resident adults budget?
Using NairobiPark.org’s published private rates and the US$80 working KWS amount, two non-resident adults would budget approximately US$380 total for a private half-day safari or US$440 total for a private full-day safari, before meals, tips and optional attractions.
When were these prices checked?
The prices and examples on this guide were checked on 7 September 2026. Government fees, marketplace listings, exchange rates and operator prices can change. Confirm the final written total before paying.
